Needs and Donations for International Students at NIU
1. Household Items
Bedding: Blankets, sheets, and comforters (no pillows or mattresses)
Kitchen Supplies: Cookware, utensils, plates, cups, and small appliances.
Cleaning Supplies: Brooms, mops, detergents, and other cleaning essentials.
Furniture: Chairs, desks, and tables (if they have space and need).
Decor: Lamps, shoe stands, hangers, small dressers
2. Clothing
Seasonal Clothing: Jackets, sweaters, and winter gear for colder climates.
Professional Attire: Clothes suitable for interviews and professional events.
Casual Wear: Everyday clothing that is culturally appropriate and comfortable.
3. Food and Personal Care Items
Non-Perishable Food: Pasta, rice, seasoning, flour, sugar, salt, lentils, oil, and snacks, and international aisle
Personal Care Products: Toiletries like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.
Cooking Ingredients: Spices, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, oil and other food items that may be hard to find locally.
4. Academic Supplies
Stationery: Notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, and art supplies.
5. Financial Support
Scholarships or Funds: Contributions to scholarship funds or emergency funds specifically for international students.
Gift Cards: Cards for grocery stores, clothing stores, or local restaurants that they can use to buy necessities.
6. Transportation Assistance
Bicycles: For students who need transportation for commuting. We have an Ambassador that fixes bikes also.
Students come with usually 2 pieces of luggage.
Their space is limited.
